Los Angeles-based filmmaker Jason Matzner is most known for his dramatic feature DREAMLAND, which premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and was distributed by Sony.

 

A coming-of-age drama starring Agnes Bruckner, Kelli Garner, Justin Long, Gina Gershon, and John Corbett, DREAMLAND was honored at film festivals worldwide, and earned Matzner a BEST DIRECTOR award at the actor-focused Method Fest Film Festival, as well BEST FEMALE LEAD for Bruckner and Garner, and BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR for Corbett.

 

Matzner began his directing career with music videos. Matzner has also directed commercials, PSAs, fashion films, and promos, including a TELLY AWARD-winning spot for the Newport Beach Film Festival. 

 

Matzner’s short film FURTHUR, which he also lensed and edited, won BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY at the 2012 La Jolla Fashion Film Festival, the largest fashion film festival in the world.

 

Matzner’s martial arts short film THE JOB, premiered at the 2016 Palm Springs ShortFest and won Best Action Sequence (Short) at the 2016 Action on Film Festival.

At the same time, Matzner has worked in feature story development since 1993.  He is currently a senior story analyst at Universal Pictures, where he has developed major motion pictures such as THE JASON BOURNE franchise, JAMES BOND 25, and the upcoming SCARFACE remake, amongst many others.

Matzner holds a B.A. in Film Studies from Wesleyan University.  He is also lead guitarist for Los Angeles-based rock band CHIEF OF GHOSTS and a travel still photographer.
